IL PROTAGONISTA TRA LE RIGHE (BOOK)
The work provides performers of Rota's music with new insights on the interrelationships between his film compositions and the works intended for the concert hall, the ways in which various styles are mixed together throughout his output, and the delicate balance between Rota's popular accessibility and artistic sophistication.

Additionally, Sara’s Doctoral research contains a priceless interview to Maestro Michele Marvulli (former Director of Italian Pesaro Conservatory of Music) pupil of Nino Rota and witness to Rota's compositional practices and methods. Maestro Marvulli worked closely with Rota, becoming his personal assistant who finalized several of his compositions. His input in Sara’s work provides invaluable background material and support for all future scholars approaching the subject.

SHOWS

L’Amico del Casanova” (“Casanova’s Friend”) is a show inspired by the figure of composer Nino Rota (1911-1979). The show, for piano and actor, consists of a series of readings and piano performances which explore Nino Rota’s life (such as interviews and excerpts from Rota’s mother’s diary) and piano works (such as the Fifteen Preludes for piano.) Additionally, the show interconnects Rota’s figure with the legendary director Federico Fellini, remarking their friendship and the amount of work the two artists did together, through an arrangement for piano and voice of the masterpiece movie “Il Casanova di Federico Fellini.”

Sara already gave a successful Lecture Recital in the United States on the interconnections between filmic and and non-filmic music of Nino Rota (“The Sounds of Cinema in Nino Rota’s Piano Music”); the show “L’Amico del Casanova” represents the theatrical counterpart of Sara’s academic research.
